Hundreds of Portuguese farmers are demanding the “valorization” of their activities by joining a furious movement. As a matter of fact, they closed up a number of highways, including two that crossed the Spanish border. Portuguese farmers voice their displeasure at aid reductions meant to make up for the decline in output.
The Confederation of Portuguese Farmers (CAP), the sector’s principal body, disagrees with the mobilization because it thinks the government has pledged to undo the proposed cuts.
Separately, the government promised 500 million euros in support measures to help farmers deal with drought and other difficulties.
